First Ever Day of the Girl!

Day of the Girl bannerFollowing an extensive campaign by non-governmental organizations, the United Nations has declared 11 October the Day of the Girl Child. You can read the official proclamation from the United Nations here

Promoting the rights of the girl child was a strategic objective of the Beijing Platform for Action. The recommended actions are here. How much progress do you think has been made since 1995?

The Millennium Development Goals include gender justice. Speaking at the Federation of Asian Bishops Conferences’ Bishops’ Institute for Social Action VIII, I used data on the MDG3 indicators to describe the social reality.
